Over the last few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically disrupted our lives. Our schools have closed and sports and activities have abruptly come to a halt. We're all feeling the weight of this void and the impact of this health crisis.
On Sunday, March 15th, the WIAA LEAP Committee connected for a virtual meeting to discuss and process the wide range of emotions that our junior and senior student represenatives have been feeling during this time of great uncertainty. During that meeting, the Committee members decided to write essays about how they are each dealing with this situation in their respective communities. These accounts will be published on the LEAP Student Blog in the coming weeks.
We're extending this opportunity to any students across the state who would like to share their unique stories. We see tremendous value in providing a platform for sharing stories and feelings as we work through this together. What’s important to keep in mind is that, at the end of the day, the mission of the WIAA has always been to provide opportunities for students around the state. That mission has never been more important than it is right now.
Questions to consider for your submission:
- Now that everything is on hold, how has your appreciation for sports and activities changed, both as a participant but also as a fan?
- What do you miss the most?
- What are you looking forward to when you can return to sports?
- How are you staying active?
- What is your community doing to band together during this time?
If you are comfortable sharing, we would like to hear from you.
